Why Delete Continue Watching on Netflix?

Ever since Netflix came to India, I was tempted to use it. After getting feedback from my friends, colleagues and reading a few Netflix reviews, I finally took a subscription. If I have to briefly tell my experience with Netflix I would simply say it’s awesome.

Netflix has this cool feature of maintaining a queue of Shows and Movies you’ve been watching. On clicking on a particular show/movie in the queue it starts from the point you stopped it. This is very useful if you had to leave for urgent work while you were watching a movie. The next time you don’t have to search for the movie and play it again rather it shows up in the Continue Watching queue and even resumes from the point you stopped it.

However, the downside to this feature is that if you didn’t like the series or the movie and you closed it intentionally still it would keep showing in the Queue, which is irritating as you don’t intend to view it later either. Moreover, many times I have observed that even if the complete series or movie is watched completely still it remains in the Continue Watching queue.

How to Hide Titles on iOS Devices

Follow these steps if the directions above don't apply to your device (e.g., you're on iOS or you're using an outdated version of the app):

  1. Tap the profile you wish to edit the items from. If you're in the wrong profile, tap a different one from the More menu.

  2. Open the More menu and tap Account to open your Netflix account settings in your web browser. If you’re not given that option, go to Netflix’s Your Account page manually.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page, select your profile to expand the menu, and then choose Viewing activity.

  4. Tap the circle with a line through it, located next to every movie/show you've watched, to mark those items as hidden.

If you hide an episode of a TV show, you'll also see a link you can tap to hide the whole series. To hide all the items listed, including movies and TV shows, scroll to the very bottom and tap Hide all.

How to Change Netflix Profiles

Another way to deal with the "continue watching" list on Netflix is to keep your viewing habits separated within different profiles. If you want to rewatch a series, for example, or your roommate wants to watch a movie you've already seen, you can build a separate profile to make a fresh "continue watching" list.

You can have up to five profiles on a single account. Learn how to create a new Netflix profile if you need help.

Another way you can remove a title from the “Continue Watching” list is by also removing it from your activity page. In other words, Netflix will give you the option to “hide” the title from the Viewing Activity page. Unfortunately, you will have to use a web browser because the Netflix app doesn’t support the option.

Here’s how you can do this on an iOS device:

  1. Launch a web browser on your iPhone or iPad. Visit the Netflix website.Log into your Netflix profile.
  2. Log into your Netflix profile.Go to the three horizontal lines in the upper-left

  5. Scroll down to the appropriate Netflix profile. Find “Viewing Activity” on the list of options. Tap on ‘View.’Locate the title that you want to hide.
  6. Locate the title that you want to hide.
  7. Tap on the “delete” icon (a circle with a slash through it) on the right side of the title.

That’s about it. The title won’t appear in your “Continue Watching” list anymore. Keep in mind that it might take Netflix up to 24 hours to hide the title on all of your devices.
